A Transparent Treasure: The World’s Finest Coffee Liqueur

The most prestigious coffee liqueur in the world is an entirely transparent spirit distilled from the rare Panama Geisha variety, often referred to as the “Shangri-La” of specialty coffees, grown in a small region of the Central American country.
Though the coffee itself commands a price per gram higher than gold, the concept to distill it into a refined spirit is entirely Italian.

The idea was born from botanical chef Alessandro Gilmozzi of the Michelin-starred El Molin restaurant in Val di Fiemme. He collaborated with pizza chef Corrado Scaglione, coffee enthusiast and BLK SHP CEO Francesco Bernasconi, and Justin Boudeman, the owner of a micro plantation on Panama’s legendary Misty Mountain, and founder of Longboard, named after his passion for longboard surfing.

Distillation was entrusted to Mauro Dolzan, a sixth-generation master distiller from the historic Villa de Varda distillery in Trentino’s Piana Rotaliana.

The result: 700 individually numbered bottles priced around €1,500 each.

But as with the rare Panama Geisha itself, getting your hands on one is a true challenge.
